So I snagged this from GCenter this week. I always wanted to try the Archon series, my daughter had a gig coming up on a big stage and it seemed to work out (she actually took home an award for her I Love Rock and Roll performance!)

So in the store and on day 1 at home I freakin loved this amp. Perfect. Honeymoon amazing. It worked well for the show. I took it home and started jammin on it, tried a Grind to boost it, kind of hated that, than went back to no boost....and now I think I fell out of love. It's like the boost exaggerated a frequency that now I can't ignore. I think it's going back and I'll try something else.

Shortest honeymoon ever :bang:

Sometimes annoying frequencies in Madison square bedroom = clarity in a band mix FYI.

Try it out in context one more time.

Yeah send it back if you're having second thoughts. If you bought it used or was outside of the return period, I'd say try and make it work, but in this case just return it..

it's used with a 45 day return. I'm on day 3 lol. I'll try it for another week with different applications and see how it goes.

That sucks  FWIW; I'd let it sit for a few days and come back with fresh ears. The Grind is, from all i have seen and heard; an exaggerated as all h#ll boost as it is. So maybe back away, reset the ears for a bit before you revisit.

Then return it :D

TBH, I don't care for the standard/stock Archon. One thing that you could try is a decent speaker though. My Archon is different as it was modded by Doug after it blew up on me after 4 months. I am uncertain what he did, but it is closer to a MT-15. This was done well before those were marketed and sold. Folks seemed to like it at ampfest a couple years ago at KC ampfest. Maybe the MT might suit you better? Oh, and since I got my amp at a steal of $400, I am not complaining.

to me it seems like the 5153 is superior to the archon on almost all counts, except the clean on the archon is probably better, but if that's your main selling point on a high gain amp you are doing it wrong.

I disagree. I found them both to be very solid high gain tones. Just depends if you want the upper mid push or the lower mid push.
