Apparently, they're serving Fractal Kool Aid at the Reaper's cafeteria.

 Sorry, came across as kinda a dick. Totally guilty though. I can't wait for Reaper Ultra XL II.

Edit: People were asking about splitting tracks. You can split tracks by hitting S, (hit the magnet looking thing to disable the Snap to Grid.) Copy and Paste are Ctrl-C and Ctrl- V, just like the Windows commands. The hieroglyphics(fucking lol) are actually pretty useful.

How do you route the hardware outputs so that you can send the audio from a virtual instrument from an interface output and jumper it back into one of the interface inputs to live record into wav. file?

I've tried, and failed.

It sounds like you want to record an onboard synth (or guitar sim) tone instead of midi date (or a dry guitar).
If this is what you want to do, create Audio Ttrack 1 as usual. Then, create an Aux Send Fader and a new Audio Track 2. Send the Audio Track 1 to the Aux Send Fader and set the input on the Audio Track 2 to receive from the Aux Send. Hit Record on the Audio Track 2. This will record the actual synth sounds (or guitar sim) to the Audio Track 2.

Ugh. Reaper'd.

On Sonar: record the MIDI, right click on the track, "convert to wav" . Done.

Ost, you can render/bounce in place, it's on the right click menu. But I don't think that's what you are asking. Send to your hardware from one track and record to a second track.

ok circling back Clipless, have you installed a DAW on your computer yet? Or do you need several more months to research this monumental decision.

I have decided to go with Cakewalk - that's as far as it has gotten.

stupider question.
once the mics and interface are hooked up to the computer via USB - how do I get the sound back into my system for playback?
through the USB/interface?
I think the only other 'speaker out' I have is the headphone jack on the tablet.

Through the DAW, you need to configure the in and output. If you want to use the headphone out, then you need to tell the software to send the mix to that output. Otherwise, most interfaces have a headphone jack and also monitor outputs too. If you get some monitors, it would be ran through the interface (once again, you would tell the software that is the output you want).

It's better to use the headphone or speaker out from the interface because there will be less lag. Also it probably has a better digital to analog converter than your tablet's headphone jack.

The interface will have outputs, you can route the signal back to the interface and use either monitors or headphones.

Thanks - so this signal routed back to the interface can/is ALL the tracks (summed output) of the mix, effects, etc. that is being developed in the DAW, right?

You can record a track (or two) and monitor the mix at the same time?

it's a lot simpler than it seems...especially if you're using cakewalk. It has that name for a reason
