Decided to take the plunge and splurge on some fancy NOS EL84's for the Mazerati because why the hell not. 6n14n's just like the Dr recommends. Will hopefully be here in a few days. We will see if these live up to the hype.

A lot of them do live up to the hype. Old GEs, Sylvanias, RCAs etc are awesome. I don't buy into the "old=better" thing for everything, but tubes were undoubtedly made better back then.

I had a quad of NOS 6n14n’s in my AC30. They were awesome. Just a great sounding EL84. Not crazy expensive either. $100 for the quad and they were some of the last ones made in the Reflektor plant.

I have a nice stash of NOS preamp tubes. Probably enough to get me tbrough life. But the power tubes are just crazy exspensive. So I haven't bothered with them.

Supposedly these will last a crazy long time too, I have heard estimates from 3,000 to 5,000+ hours. Itchy, they’re supposed to be Reflektors like the ones greatmutah is talking about. And yeah, Pablo it really wasn’t that expensive for a matched quad. Don’t know if you have any el84 amps in your stable right now but these could be worth it.

Yeah the Reflektors have a stupid long life on them. EL84 NOS variants aren't nearly as expensive as 6L6s or EL34s. These aren't a bad deal for a modern EL84 amp either. Most current EL84s just aren't as rugged. Even JJs, which admittedly hold up better than anything New Sensor as far as EL84s go, aren't really as rugged as these old Reflektors.

yeah power tubes are more expensive to start with and have a shorter lifespan so it can get very expensive to go with NOS power tubes. But for preamp tubes it definitely makes sense.

Tubes. Every time I hear about NOS tubes being expensive I grit my teeth.

I'm sure I've told this here before but my Dad worked at NASA in the 50's, 60's and 70's, mainly building electronic gadgetry for the space program. Everything was tube based and they would let the workers have all the tubes they wanted, as most of the guys in his department built electronic stuff at home. My dad had a large container that had at least 150 tubes, mainly from the 50's and 60's, all new in boxes. Quite a collection.

Somewhere around 1995 he sold the entire collection for $5 at a yard sale because he thought they were worthless because "no one uses tubes anymore". :(

those are excellent Rusky tubes , long live and strong . Can handle a ton of heat and they sound fantastic . Also those are not yet expensive but you'll only probably need one set a lifetime .

Congrats on the incoming NOS toobz!!!! Wooo hooooooo!!!!!

My Sunn Solarus uses a 7199 rectifier tube... and of course, 7199's are not being made anymore.
Had a choice of converting to SS rectification or buy NOS.... I paid $45ea. for two, 7199 tubes... that should last me a while!
