IAD: There’s A Pedal Waiting For Me

Thu May 16, 2019 4:10 pm

Good evening,

Figure out what that A stands for. I’ll wait.

All done? Good, let us proceed.

As some of you may know, I have several vintage Tel-Ray Morley pedals. You know, the ones that take up half of your pedalboard, with just one sentence. I had four; three of which function.

I have not taken receipt of it yet, but I now own five. The pedal in question is a PWA Pro Phaser. I will be putting it through its paces this weekend, if they ever let me go back to Minnesota.

Thank you.

Alright, since I’m unable to fall back to sleep, I’ll just come right out and say it:

My username starts with an A, folks. The idea is that I have a pedal waiting for me in Minneapolis, and that, because I’m in Chicago, I’M incoming.

Happy?

Sit Rep:

1. I have tested the pedal with my bass and my guitar.
2. It’s an interesting pedal, but it isn’t enough to knock the Pigtronix EP-2 off of my guitar board, and it doesn’t work well on my bass board. I will expand on the latter momentarily.
3. However, while it isn’t going to be a permanent fixture on either of my pedalboards, it did confirm what I have long believed about phasers and basses: They don’t work very well together. With the exception of the subtle whoosh on Stranglehold, and a couple of Thin Lizzy tunes, I cant think of any other examples of bass. What the Morley has done is made me reconsider the Whirlwind on my bass board. I’m almost finished rearranging it, and now have the PWB back in the fold, and the Darkglass mounted.
4. There will be a pic. Just not here.

Yeah aside from some light chorus here and there I'm not a fan of modulation on basses. For the most part, modulate is the ONE thing I don't want the bass to do lol

I’m not opposed to bass modulation - one look at my pedalboard will tell you that - but phasers are just too subtle for me.

That said, it is a fun pedal, and I don’t think I’m going to sell it right now.
