Started watching "Us" last night. What a let down. So cheesy I had to stop watching a bit after half way through. My buddy explained the rest of the plot to me and :freak:

Aladdin - 7/10, It's good, almost scene for scene remake. I don't feel it was necessary to remake and I don't feel it added anything to the original. But I could just be turning into an old curmudgeon.

I am so glad my children are grown. I have a bordering on irrational hatred for Will Smith and his "acting" career coupled with an extreme loathing for this particular movie. Ugh. I'm a curmudgeon. Come join our crew

As far as blockbusters (after looking at his filmography); I liked Enemy of the State. And Hancock (sort of, in theory, the first 3 times it was on TBS blah blah blah :freak: )
Where the Day Takes You was good back in the day, iirc. But that's pretty much it for me. I Am Legend should have been good but it pretty much wasn't.

Enemy of the State was decent. Independence Day was decent. Hancock could have been good. I, Robot could have been great. I Am Legend could have been good.

I don't think I've seen a Will Smith movie I didn't like at least a little bit.

They’re at least entertaining to me, if not good.

Hancock cracked me up, I’m a big fan of Matheson so I dug Legend, MIB always gets me etc...

I like most of his big blockbuster movies; grew up with Fresh Prince records and that show so he’s never bugged me.

Gojira: 5.5/10

Ok. If you love Godzilla, this is the only decent one (which some major caveats) since the official Japanese films and maybe Shin Godzilla was pretty good too. Googly eyes and all.

The lore they show here is tremendous. Lots of info to take in. Unfortunately, is all delivered with an atrocious script and poor acting with the exception of Eleven and Tywin Lannister (Who could recite a cereal box and it would sound epic).

LUCKILY... The people don't matter here. At all. You won't care about them at all and that's fine. This movie is about a shit ton of lore and monster fights. CG was phenomenal. Monster design was decent, but campy somewhat. Some cheese in the story, but worth a watch. I was warned not to care about the humans. Knowing that helped me concentrate on the important info and cool monster fights. Hope this post will help others with that.

Sounds exactly like what I want from a giant monster movie!

Yeah. For me... That's about as high of a score i can give most blockbuster action movies. It was very good

Avengers endgame, 9.5/10

I didn't initially have much interest in the marvel series of films, I had seen a couple such as the guardians and some bits of a couple of others, but after seeing infinity wars I only then realised how they were all connected and I was hooked.

So, over the last few months I've binge-watched all previous 21 films in the suggested chronological order, catching up with captain marvel this week, which I enjoyed more than I was expecting (due to some less than enthusiastic reviews).

I thought some of the individual films were a bit meh, for example the 1st thor, the 2nd iron man, black panther, spiderman, the 1st captain America, but really enjoyed the group and cross-over outings.

Anyway, we saw endgame at the cinema tonight and I'm still buzzing, one of the best films I've seen in a long time, really enjoyed it.

Deadwood movie. Not sure but I liked it/10. Always wanted to watch the series (and tried an episode or 3) but never have dove in for whatever reason. So I can't say how it fares in comparison. But it was enjoyable.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs 8/10

Finally got around to seeing this.

I'm conflicted. The atmosphere is great. I love the look of the movie, the dialogue, and the costumes. I'm a huge fan of the Coen brothers.

The stories though felt kind of gloomy and disjointed and there wasn't much payoff in some of them.

edit: watched again and I'm raising to 8/10. Four out of six of the stories are pretty good. Only "Meal Ticket" and the last one kind of suck, unless you like seeing Tyne Daily sitting in a stagecoach for a really long time.

I was very disappointed by the movie. The series is like nothing else but the movie felt overbearing and empty at the same time.

Is there somewhere to watch the Deadwood series? I recently read that it was originally supposed to be about Roman soldiers, but due to another series on the same channel at the time (Rome), they changed the setting to the old west. I caught a few episodes of the series, but always felt lost, since it was pre-on demand. Would like to go back and check it out before watching the movie.

Pretty sure only on HBO.

I give it a 5/10

Ethan Hawk was irritating. The pace of the movie was plodding, and in the end I didn't give a damn how it turned out.

I have seen this film a few times over the last year, and it has become one of my favourite little hidden jems. It’s a B movie type story line where a group of 30/40 something brits take a trip on behalf of their deceased friend. It gets woven into Norse mythology, and it’s a cool little horror film. Ralf Spall is great in this.
