Nice! ^

I just watched a vid where a guy used a well known soap, razor brush and blade, with a lather bowl and a syringe to add 1/2 of a TbSP at a time to achieve 'optimal lather'

I laughed my way thru the whole vid.

I don't mean to be rude. I don't...I just think it's sort of hysterical the lengths these guys go to. I get it's a hobby and people are into it. A lot of us are the same way about strings, scale lengths, pots, pickups etc....so I get it. The whole 'add a drop of water at a time and make more lather' just struck me as excessive and funny.

Yeah, I can't stand the term "lather optimization". These guys do these rating charts for the soap qualities, and people take it as gospel. It's all bullshit, since we all have different water. Plus, I'm finding, most enthusiastic people are noobs who couldn't lather their way out of a bathtub with a mop. (I was one once.). I don't really trust the opinions of anybody (except you guys, of course.)

optimization is unnecessary if you use a lot of water and a lot of product. Somewhere in your mix, you will have something shaveable. When the brush hits my face, it's saturated with all 5 levels. water, soap, proto lather, stable lather, and runny lather. If I keep lathering, it's a waste of time, but I will end up with more stable and runny lather, which is just icing on the cake.

The shower really is the ticket since i can make a mess and not care. I can see how it becomes more gentle and tedious at the sink. But, for some reason, 90% of B&B thinks I'm an idiot for shaving in the shower. "uhh herr derp. you're being too fast. you can't enjoy it in the shower. herr derrrrrr."

I enjoy the shit out of it, and I have an ultra luxurious experience since I can load and lather to my heart's content with no worries of it going everywhere. Then, I get fucking awesome shaves. Better than 99% of people on Earth.

I struggled for years to get where I am today. Wondering why is my face irritated?? There were a number of a ha moments along the way.
1. Face lathering. The bowl is a MacGuffin. It shouldn't be the key to a good lather. It's a tool at the sink, or a tool for a cream or sample. The soap comes in a tub for a reason.
2. Shower shaving. more water. more heat. more steam. better shaves.
3. Blooming the soap. My water is very hard. The easier loading of soap is 100% necessary. Dry it out for a day, and it will never go bad.

I'm off my soap box. I need to settle down. I love shaving, and I love shaving gear.

BTW, there is something like Shaving NAMM. Maggards has a meetup once a year, and lots of the great artisans show up with a booth.

Decided to give the Voskhod blades another try.
They worked just fine in the Edwin Jagger Classic (with Canadian Tech handle).
Just for fun, I made a "Super Lather" by soaping up my face with the stick of RR Gold Label and whipping up a lather of Amichi with the Omega Boar.
The Amichi and Gold Label are each fine on their own, but together, they made a really great, thick lather.
9/10 - no nicks, paper cuts or, razor burn... just a nice, SAS for Friday.

You guys ever need to shave and find yourselves in the midst of choice paralysis? I can’t do it. I need to shave but I’ve been drinking a lot and fuck it. Do I have over 40 soaps/AS’s and numerous razors? Yeah. Do I give any fucks? No.

Good shave. Stupefacente smells awesome.
Fatip was alright. not bad.
this brush is just right for Italian soft soaps.

didn't get a super close shave, and the aftershave kinda burned a bit.
I'm just going to go 9/10 because it wasn't perfect.

Brush aside, I had the exact same shave as you did. That Stupefacente soap is an absolute gem, and you’ve already read my praises for the aftershave.

I did have a few serious weepers, but they were over fairly quickly. 9/10, as well. I swear, it’s a coincidence.

Awesome shave....Milksteak rapidly becoming my favorite base, although the new one from A&E is supposed to be great and the SV is incoming too, we'll see what's up.

Skill check time, went with the Ikon Gene sent me. I remember having to buff a lot more with this razor, I must be getting better. 2 pass DFS, no issues.

GB awesome...this was my first 'high end' brush and holds a special place because of it. v3 TDR Fanchurian, I have a v4 coming in too, be interesting to see how much difference there is between versions.

Good shit, 10/10

Great looking shave. I didn’t get to shave today. It nearly gave me a panic attack. Had to take kids swimming at the ymca first thing. Then, I just had to shower there.

I have 2 new brushes and some gear that needs to be tried. I’m itchy and scratchy.

I napped for 40 minutes and it was everything I thought it could be.

Yeah, the high mountain white is cool. Not thick and spongey like the shd knots. It feels floppy, warm, and broken in like a wet vajay. Awesome.

I really like the way fans look both wet and dry, but I have a couple bulbs and they're just fuckin awesome to shave with. I might end up switching most of my fans up.

Referencing the pic, that Brassbird looks SICK with the black plate. I really need to snag a brass OC for those multi growth days just for that look.

THE ALMOST ALL STEIN SOTD!!!! Voskhod Blade, Orange Chill AS and Soap (Thanks again Stein!!!)

Slapped a Voskhod into my Gillette Sticky and used my old, EJ Boar Brush to whip up a lather.
The Sticky is a very mild razor that gets its name from its handle that never looses grip when wet.
A couple of pages back, I poo poo'd the Voskhod but, it's doing a fine job.
The EJ brush was my first; bought in in 2012 but it doesn't get much use... it's small, soft and too floppy... guess I'm just a boar guy.
The Orange Chill AS and soap smell like real orange peal not Tang - great stuff!!!
I decided that I'm only going for SAS's on weekends... 9/10
